A Newborn Family Session in Whitby — Welcoming Baby Z
There’s something really special about returning to a home you’ve photographed before. It feels familiar, a little nostalgic, and full of that quiet in-between energy that only happens when a family grows. This newborn session with the Fontana family in Whitby had all of that and a little more.
I photographed their in-home maternity session not too long ago, and, in the wildest twist, their sweet baby boy ended up arriving the very next day. None of us knew we were shooting those last hours of their family of four. So walking back into their home a couple months later, now with three boys and the soft rhythm of newborn life, felt pretty incredible!
From the moment I stepped inside, the house had that familiar, lived-in warmth I remembered and now one very cozy baby bundled up at the centre of it all. And, of course, their adorable Frenchie made sure to pop into a few frames, happily doing his part as the unofficial big brother.
As with most newborn sessions, we let our time unfold naturally. The older boys led the way — bouncing between rooms, playing, snuggling in close, wandering off, and coming right back again. Newborns have a way of slowing things down, and I love when siblings take the lead; it keeps the session honest and full of energy in all the best ways.
Some of my favourite moments were the ones where their newest little guy just watched his brothers, taking it all in. Those are the frames I love most: the quiet glances, small hands reaching toward tiny feet, and that unmistakable feeling of “this is our family now.”
Being invited back into the their home to document this next chapter meant so much to me. Watching them move from maternity to newborn life — the same rooms, the same light, but a whole new story unfolding — is exactly why I love what I do.
I can’t wait for them to look back on these photos years from now and see just how beautifully their boys welcomed their newest brother into the world.
