Are Family Photos Worth It? When to Book, How Often & Why It Matters
If you're a parent, you've probably said some version of:
"I really want to book family photos… but when’s the right time? Will it be stressful? Is it even worth it?"
Let’s talk about it—from someone who knows the juggle, and has made it her job to slow time down (just a little).
Are Professional Family Photos Really Worth It?
They are—when they reflect real connection, not forced smiles.
Professional family photos become part of your legacy. They're the images that live on your walls and get pulled out years from now when your babies aren’t so little.
But beyond that?
They’re a gift to your present self, too. A way to pause and say:
"This is our life right now, and it’s beautiful as it is."
The way your toddler climbs into your lap. The chaos. The quiet. The laughter. The way your partner looks at your kids when they think you’re not watching.
That’s what I’m here to photograph.
How Often Should You Book Family Photos?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer—but most book once a year to mark their family’s rhythm.
That might look like:
Fall photos for holiday cards
Spring minis in a local field
A golden hour beach session in summer
A cozy in-home shoot with your newest baby
If your family has grown, changed, or just hasn’t had a photo with you in it for a while… that’s your sign.
And don’t worry—I’ll help with all the details, from location to wardrobe.
What’s the Best Age for Family Photos?
The short answer? Now.
Because every season brings something worth remembering:
Newborn stage – sleepy cuddles, tiny hands, that newness
6–12 months – giggles, tummy time, sitting up
Toddlerhood – personality, play, full-body snuggles
Early childhood – imagination, independence, sibling connection
There’s no “perfect” age—only the right time for you. And I’ll meet you there with calm, gentle direction and a flexible approach.
How Long Does a Family Session Take?
Most sessions are 60+ minutes—just enough time to settle in and let your family’s rhythm take over.
I’m never in a rush, but I also know when we’ve gotten what we need.
We’ll move at your kids’ pace, take breaks when needed, and keep things light.
If we’re at your home or a familiar park, all the better—kids open up when they feel safe. And trust me: the in-between moments? They’re often the most meaningful ones.
What Makes a Session Feel Like You?
This is the part that matters most.
My sessions are designed to feel relaxed, editorial, and true to your family—not a Pinterest version of it. That means:
No stiff posing
No matching outfits required
No pressure to “perform”
Instead, I offer gentle prompts, help you feel at ease, and give your little ones space to be themselves. We create a setting where genuine connection can unfold—and I photograph it with care.
